If you are looking to lose weight, you can lose most of it with diet. It doesn't mean starving or binging. It's generally eating ata certain deficit, more meals a day and spacing them out. You want to work out while you diet at least a bit. You want to lose fat, not just water/muscle. Then plan out a diet with MyFitnessPal. The first month of getting into it sucks and you won't get gains that fast. After that, it's routine and you'll see progress. With exercise, cardio burns calories. Resistance training or lifting builds muscle. Get a personal trainer for a day to walk you through how to do it. Lifting heavy stuff a lot doesn't mean you get big faster. It's a process. Think about where you want to be in one year, not one week. Don't just rush to the gym and just lift heavy things to prove you're strong. The pros see through it and it's really easy to get injured if you don't have good form. So prioritize good form even if that means lower weights. Some exercises are better when the weights are lower and the reps are high. Again, just get a trainer for a day to help you walk through it.
