Having said that, you will not be able to make a big contribution to physics simulations or graphics-shader optimization these days. There has been too much development and middleware that are really good and convenient to use. What you could benefit from is your ability to visualize geometry (physicist assumption). I would start small. Either code up a casual game itch.io style, or start getting your hands dirty with middleware. If I wanted to do this professionally, I would get into the modding scene and start building a portfolio.
