Tasked with digitizing thousands of family photographs spanning a century! How do I catalogue them? Here's my plan so far... PLEASE HELP. ADVICE NEEDED.

    First: organization. Like u/BuntStiftLecker said above, use EXIF data. To respond to your question above, you will need software. Any respectable photo software can do it. Lightroom is a classic example, though I would also recommend Photo Mechanic by Camerabits. It's professional ingest and tagging software. 30 day free trial. If the system you describe works for you, then go with it. Perfect is the enemy of done. Will there be possible changes in organization along the way, maybe, if it works for you great. If it gets too burdensome, then dial it back. Again, done is the goal. The process will improve along the way.
