Eudora started in 1988, at the University of Illinois because the internet was a growing and burgeoning place, but email was not really established on the desktop computers that people were using at the time.
I wish Eudora was still around. The source code is available, my secret dream is to work on somtimes in the summer... https://computerhistory.org/blog/the-eudora-email-client-source-code/.

  4. Webmail is an open-source webmail script for existing IMAP servers.
The Roundcube plugin seems to implement a form of quick account switching, which isn't exactly what I'm after. Cypht looks more like it, and I've found that there's a paid version of AfterLogic Webmail [1] which claims to implement a unified inbox. [1] https://afterlogic.com/webmail-client.

I love Mailspring, it's modern and open source: https://getmailspring.com/ The UI uses Electron, but the actual sync engine is in C++, so it's pretty fast.

a truly censorship-resistant alternative to Twitter
We should pay very close attention to <a href="https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nostr">https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nostr</a> as I think the future of app development is letting multiple clients implement their own custom UI layers on top of a shared core.
