I pay for a few cloud machines, a commercial VPN, Internet uplink, and electricity. Outsourcing services you rely upon creates all the wrong incentives. Hardware costs money, especially when you get obsessive about it (. o O 2TB SSDs are getting cheap, maybe I'll add some to my backups). But the cost is fully accrued at time for purchase and the ongoing relationship is straightforward. There's no slow creep up in monthly fees, price increases, or trying to cut back services that you can't imagine living without. And ultimately it's not even about money. Communications autonomy FTFW.
