I also discovered the app AirFlow Airflow , like a better version of Chromecast, I stream it directly from my Mac to my TV, works flawlessly no buffering, so I can't understand why Plex is acting this way and don't have a solution. Source: 10 months ago
Https://airflow.app/ I use this for native sub support. Source: about 1 year ago
Use an app with subtitle support like https://airflow.app. Source: about 1 year ago
I use torrents heavily despite subscribing to 4 different streaming services because I live in Canada and we don't yet have Hulu or HBO Max. Plus I also like watching some older movies in 2160p and torrents are just the easiest option to do so. I use PirateBay + Transsmion for torrents and then https://airflow.app/ to stream movies from my Macbook to my Firestick/Chromecast, which I find just as easy as using a... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
I have used https://airflow.app for years and happy with it. Works great and can download susbtitles. Source: over 1 year ago
Second, you have two good options ( paid and free). You can use the Airflow app, which is a paid app. The free version limits you to 20 min of casting only. At $19.99, it is on the steeper side price-wise, but the functionality is just perfect. I also have a mobile app that can be used as a remote, navigating through files, etc. You can use Stacksocial to get it for $15.99. Your other option is using the plex.... Source: over 1 year ago
Chromecast + Airflow will do all of this except play video games. There's an Airflow app for phones as well, but even if you don't have it you can use your phone as a remote to play/pause/skip content streaming from the Airflow app. Source: over 1 year ago
I use an app called Airflow, it lets you play any video on a Chromecast or AirPlay from your Mac. Source: over 1 year ago

AirFlow - paid, but a one-time purchase and works flawlessly. Source: over 1 year ago
It’s hard since subtitles are usually images but Chromecasts only take text based subtitles. But https://airflow.app/ uses OCR to convert to a compatible format. Has a free trial. Source: over 1 year ago
There are tons of posts in this subreddit, could have searched there first. But I just use https://airflow.app/. Source: almost 2 years ago

Most apps, including anything built-in, have a real problem encoding 264/265 audio. Try Web Video Caster or airflow if VLC isn't an option. Source: almost 2 years ago
For local media streaming to Chromecast or Apple TV devices, I highly prefer Airflow app[0] over Plex. The experience for playback really is a night and day difference. Scrubbing/seeking is instant and it basically avoids transcoding whenever possible, including when using subtitles. [0] https://airflow.app/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
I use https://airflow.app/ for anything with subs with my Ultra. Source: about 2 years ago
I'll add one more: Airflow. Easily the smoothest solution I've found to stream local video files to Chromecasts and Apple TV: https://airflow.app/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
Casting Desktop doesn't really work well with videos. For local videos either use VLC Media Player (free but no subtitle support) or Airflow (free trial for sub support) https://airflow.app/. Source: about 2 years ago
I did find AirFlow and it seems like it might do what I am looking for, but I can’t find too many reviews and it seems its no longer under active development (site copyright notice reads ‘2020’, no mention of Monterey compatibility…). Source: about 2 years ago
