The way you describes it reminds me of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. It has a tweak where you can control volume just by hovering on the system tray/clock (or the whole taskbar if you prefer) and scroll the mouse wheel. I had a SPX more than a year ago, and I liked the extra screen space and battery-life over the SP7, but I needed window manager tools such as PowerToys Fancy Zones and AquaSnap for top/bottom splits in portrait orientation, and 7+ Taskbar Tweaker for taskbar improvements, which still don't work on ARM, so I had to get back to the SP7 while waiting for the SP8 with Alder Lake.
