  I recommend using Ventoy, and drag in the top general distro (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Zorin, Manjaro) and the top distro for gaming (Nobara, PopOS, Garuda).   8.1 is out of support and should not be connected to the internet. What does she do on the computer? If it's just email and Facebook, seriously look into Zorin OS. If she can use Windows, she can use Zorin - dead simple and will work until the hardware dies on that computer.   I've never run games in Mint myself. I do have on a more utility laptop. But Mint is just a variation of Ubuntu just like Zorin OS. I run games on Zorin with very few challenges these days..
