  • Microsoft starts testing ads in the Windows 11 Start menu
I tried several over the years, specifically looking for a good out of the box experience, GUI-first usage, and one that's stable over time, and after upgrades. Zorin OS fit the bill the most. I think the landing page is good as well. https://zorin.com/os/. - Source: Hacker News / 13 days ago
  • Introduction
My first Linux distro was PopOS and It was a refreshing experience. It was really easy to install, use, and game on. I distro hopped a few times to see what other linux flavors are like. These are the ones that I remember trying Zorin OS and Linux Mint. These ones looked mostly like windows and it was easy to use. At work, I gained most of my linux knowledge from docker and configuring / administrating RHEL... - Source: dev.to / 6 months ago

  • Manjaro is a free and open source Linux operating system that emphasizes privacy
ZorinOS[0] is fantastic! I switched from Ubuntu too and it was surprising how polished ZorinOS was. Everything was super stable and in the last 2 years, it didn't break by itself, which I can't say the same for Ubuntu sadly. Linux Mint too is cool but the outdated UI is the only deal breaker for me. [0] - https://zorin.com/os. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Alternatives for someone who is very computer unsaavy.
I hate to be 'that guy', but maybe do what I did for my mom - I started her on Zorin OS - Basically a Linux distro that looks almost identical to Windows. Source: 11 months ago
  • macOS is Letting Down the Team
I can't believe people still think that you require commandline to use Linux. ZorinOS exists. Source: 11 months ago
  • Wanting to ditch windows 10 in favor of linux
I recommend using Ventoy, and drag in the top general distro (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Zorin, Manjaro) and the top distro for gaming (Nobara, PopOS, Garuda). If you want to have a user experience similar to SteamOS Desktop Mode, use the KDE version of the distro (Kubuntu, Nobara KDE, Manjaro KDE, Garuda Dragonfire). Source: 12 months ago
  • Upgraded from 7 to 10. Can I downgrade to 8?
8.1 is out of support and should not be connected to the internet. What does she do on the computer? If it's just email and Facebook, seriously look into Zorin OS. If she can use Windows, she can use Zorin - dead simple and will work until the hardware dies on that computer. It would be easier for her than using 8.1 anyway - the start menu is nothing like 7 or 10. Source: 12 months ago
  • Mint saved my laptop
I've never run games in Mint myself. I do have on a more utility laptop. But Mint is just a variation of Ubuntu just like Zorin OS. I run games on Zorin with very few challenges these days.. Linux has come a long way in terms of gaming and production and creative applications. Source: 12 months ago
  • Time to move my desktop to Linux I guess
I suggest Zorin OS. It's ubuntu based. Been using it for 1.5 years. Source: 12 months ago
  • Windows 10 is finished — Microsoft confirms 'version 22H2' is the last
Zorin is very Windows parallel. Most applications you use on Windows will install on it. Very easy installation. Source: 12 months ago

Wasn't there a Linux distro that was trying to look and feel almost exactly like Windows XP? I'm sure it's not perfect but it'd be worth a shot if you were so used to XP. EDIT: Found it - https://zorin.com/os/. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago

You could also look at Zorin. Although they seem to have snap installed/set up by default as well. Source: about 1 year ago

Zorin OS and Pop!_OS are Ubuntu-based, with the latter having some power management software or some support for it, but I haven't checked the first one. However, Zorin OS Lite comes with XFCE, so make sure to get that edition, if you're interested. Source: about 1 year ago
