I recommend Wire. It's end-to-end encrypted, and it's so secure governments use it. It's free if you just download it. It does not ask for any personal information except an email account to sign up with, and you can quickly make a new email with protonmail. Wire : has also been recommended by Snowden, but not held by him in as high regard as Signal.
