Steam Deck runs Linux (some variant of Arch apparently), so all Windows games get run through Proton, which is essentially a fork/superset of wine that focuses on adding stuff for gaming. - Source: Reddit / 21 days ago
For carbide motion my suggestion would be to start by just booting over to Windows when you need to use it, but maybe think about moving over to linux based replacements that apparently should be able to control a shapeoko etc. With no problem, such as ugs or cncjs, but they will require a bit of tinkering that'll be way easier once you're used to linux. Although I'm not optimistic about using it for Carbide... - Source: Reddit / 25 days ago
Q4Wine is a Qt GUI for Wine. It will allow you to run Windows executables out of the box. Flatseal is a graphical utility to review and modify permissions from your Flatpak applications. We will use it to give Q4Wine permission to access our filesystem so that the Mod Manager and Script Merger can access game files. - Source: Reddit / 27 days ago

If there's any Windows specific software that you need, 95% of the time you'll be able to run it with Wine, or there'll be an native alternative available. For games, over 87% of the top 100 Steam games run either natively or through Wine, according to ProtonDB. In my own Steam library, all of my 39 games run fine on Linux. - Source: Reddit / 2 months ago

Ubuntu/Mint Install the WineHQ packages, as explained here: https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu If you already have Ubuntu's wine package installed, uninstall it first. NOTE: Ubuntu 18.04/Mint 19.04 requires a dependency (FAudio) that is not in the default repo. Download and install both 32bit (i386) and 64bit (amd64) packages. Links for the packages are included with the winehq.org guide, however I have them here... - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago

It is common opinion that the older games run better in Wine/Proton then on Windows. You might want to check winehq.org database to look at older software compatibility. Also, Lutris is a great resource to get them running easily. - Source: Reddit / 9 months ago
They've employed its creator, Sam Lantinga, since 2012, the year 2.0 came out, making it sort of their answer to coding directly against DirectX or Apple's Core APIs before they also contracted with CodeWeavers to develop and maintain Proton. (CodeWeavers being the "commercial Wine support" company that employs some of the big-name Wine developers and makes money by selling proprietary launchers and builds of Wine... - Source: Reddit / 9 months ago

I know it's theoretically a Windows UWP app. I've downloaded it from https://aka.ms/downloadmee , extracted it using unzip (twice, there is a nested archive inside), and tried to run it on Ubuntu 20.04 with Wine 7.8 from winehq.org. It didn't work. I've installed winetricks and used it to install vcrun2019 and d3dx11_43. - Source: Reddit / 11 months ago
