Low wind is the key to my greatest paddles. I really like the Windy app. Mornings are generally more calm both for the water's surface and for fewer people up. 8am is generally my target time to be on the water. Source: 11 months ago
I recently bought Windy.app and found that my friend sailing is using Windy.com. They both seem to almost do the same thing, but I generally get a bit more sailing info from Windy.app. Not sure which are more accurate or if they do the same thing. Apparently Windy.com used to be windity or something, then windy.app came into play in 2015, then windity changed their name to windy.com in 2017 and it's confusing when... Source: about 1 year ago
Thanks! And are you referring to windy.com or windy.app? Both have apps and websites lol. Source: over 1 year ago
We mostly sail "inshore" and use windy.app (Link to avoid confusion since there are two). And navionics. Source: over 1 year ago
The Windy app (https://windy.app/) may also help you to predict where/when in Tampa Bay the storms are gonna hit - wherever the winds converge, that's where the storms develop. Source: over 1 year ago
Why listen to staticky assed weather radio when you can use windy.app or weather.gov and see what's going to be going on well into the future, and in places where you haven't arrived at yet? Source: almost 2 years ago
And it was a NYTimes newlsetter called "Read Like The Wind" that mentioned Windy (although I think it might be different than the app now that I see there's a windy.com and windy.app 😅 — either way, they're both cool!). Source: almost 2 years ago
I'm considering getting into wing foil surfing as well. I'm looking at windy.app for wind speeds near Jericho and it looks like 3-10 knots is not uncommon. Can you still get on plane at these speeds? Any setup recommendations? There is an Ensis dealer on Facebook selling some stuff that has good reviews. Source: about 2 years ago
Sorry, I know I am a bit late to the thread, but I have two local weather teams to mention that will (and do) provide a more accurate weather forecast and updates than The Chronicle. The first is Texas Storm Chasers and the other is Space City Weather. Both of these teams are local and strive to provide the most accurate forecasting that they can. Also, for a good app, I would recommend Windy, they are far more... Source: about 2 years ago
And if you're a sailor (or any other wind sports) there's WindyApp...not that that's confusing or anything: https://windy.app/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
Not sure why you think you'll get accurate weather reporting from Reddit, anyway download the Windy app it has an interactive weather radar that's pretty good. Source: over 2 years ago
I literally never get sea sick but those big ass 1-2m swells can really get to me , I normally use windy.app which is accurate but I dont think it accounts for swells, it showed me wave size are about 3-4 ft the other day, in reality it was 1-1.5m swells, and its happening often. Just looked up the stats from windy.app for around Boca Chica (Port Isabel is nearest) and Cape Canaveral, and showing them here. Certainly does seem more extreme wind periods this time of year around Boca Chica than the Cape. Summer does look better overall. Source: almost 3 years ago
