  • Redirect google searches to whoogle
I deployed whoogle search at home. For laptops it is rather easy to define it as the default search for alfred and the respective browser, but for iOS devices I have not found a way (except some rather clunky and intrusive extensions) to change the default search engine beyond what Apple tells you. Is there a way to to this via pfSense or pihole? So whenever someone searches in the address bar in safari on iOS... Source: 11 months ago
  • Do search parameters no longer work? (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo...)
I host an instance of Whoogle Search that I use and never looked back. It's like someone brought Google back to the golden age. No (direct) tracking, no ads, complete control over the results. Source: 11 months ago
  • Daily General Discussion - February 8, 2023
You know what this community needs? Our own community whoogle server. Source: about 1 year ago
  • DuckDuckGo now protects you even better from Google's prying eyes

  • What’s a good privacy search engine?
I use whoogle with still uses Google under the hood but strips any PII out of the requests, I also run mine on a publicly hosted server. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Missed Unsafe Search Engines
Whoogle and Searx are similar Python-written search instances that display any kind of Images on search which is not being detected by CleanBrowsing, OpenDNS DNS-level filters. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Ask HN: What services/apps are you self-hosting?
    3. whoogle-search - https://github.com/benbusby/whoogle-search. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Is Google getting worse? Why critics say ads, spam sites are killing search
I still think google has the best results, but I'm not surprised that the new york post is trying to sow distrust in google as a company. IMO google results are still better than bing results enough to justify them But also: I use an alternative frontend[1] that I host locally. Very fast, you get google-tier and google-tier results without google-tier bloat. Would highly recommend it to anyone who likes the... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Guys, recommend some good piracy apps that we should have
Whoogle - search engine that uses google results but strips tracking from result URLs. Public instances are available, I prefer to self-host. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Non-Commerce Centered Search Engine
If you enjoy the conveniece of Google, try out Whoogle, open source, self hostable. Get more info here https://github.com/benbusby/whoogle-search. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Says Windows is crap, still won’t support Linux natively…
Take a look at whoogle too, never had any issues with search results. Source: over 1 year ago
  • My contribution to the browser discourse (arch btw)
Just hopping in to add that whoogle also seems like a really great alternative to google (ime it has been way faster than SearX-ng as well, both selfhosted). Source: over 1 year ago
  • Tornado Cash's Website Goes Dark
Also, if you are more technical, implementing something like this is great and requires no counter-party trust: https://github.com/benbusby/whoogle-search. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Choosing your web browser
I personally use GNU Icecat (GNU fork of Firefox ESR), because it contains 0% telemetry or non-free code. The only thing you really have to change when using GNU Icecat is the search engine, I personally recommend using Whoogle or LibreX because they contain no ads and don't require Javascript like Searx or SearXNG. • Why the world needs a non-profit search engine
You can also use Whoogle if you’d rather self host. https://github.com/benbusby/whoogle-search. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Shouldn't you remove duckduckgo... ?
You can change the search engine if you want. I personally use Whoogle because it gives the same results as Google except that Whoogle is actually FOSS (unlike Brave Search or Startpage). Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Thoughts on Kagi? (Premium search engine)
Tried this, it's definitely good and better than DDG results. Ultimately, I chose to self-host a Whoogle instance -- faster, open-source, and privacy friendly. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • What search engine do you use?
I'm using whoogle(git repo) as my search engine.. I've used google for almost my entire life & switching to other service wasn't a comfort zone for me.. Google seems to fulfill my needs perfectly when I search something.. So whoogle was the best choice for me as it just grabs Google's search results without any tracking. & also the customizability is just a cherry on top. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Startpage vs Brave search
As several comments mentioned, Searx is fantastic, and another great option is Whoogle. Both are ideally self-hosted (with the latter being extremely lightweight), but if that's not possible for you, a geographically close instance of either should do just fine. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • I'm currently using Orbot (tor) and this happened when I ran a search in Chrome. What the frick?
That page is normal for Tor users, as Google blocks many Tor IPs. It would be better to use a Tor-friendly search engine instead. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • New guy here
Or if you are into self hosting applications, Whoogle. Source: almost 2 years ago
