  • Ask HN: Best Google Voice alternative to receive SMS? (My country not allowed)
If you are willing to "loosen" your requirements slightly, VOIP.ms (https://voip.ms/) VOIP phone numbers support SMS send/receive (including a web interface in your account to do send/receive) and using one to send/receive SMS codes would be relatively inexpensive (if you pick their "pay for usage" version). This page shows their pricing in various countries... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • Fast busy after dialing - Grandstream HT801
It appears that the ATA is not sending any traffic out when I dial. The packet capture only saw packets to/from voip.ms when I made an inbound call. Outbound, nothing happened. Source: 5 months ago
  • Fast busy after dialing - Grandstream HT801
It's connected to voip.ms. The CDR in the ATA just shows that the outbound call failed. VoIP.ms CDR aren't registering that I've attempted to make an outbound call. Source: 5 months ago
  • Can no longer play vmail attachments from Voip.ms
Hello, I hope this is not too off-topic, but I suspect there must be many people here who have run into this. I use voip.ms, and have always received voicemails as email attachments with no problem. Since switching to Windows 11 from Windows 10, I can no longer play the files, but have to download them. Windows 11, Chrome, gmail. Error message: 'there was a problem playing this audio file'. Has anyone found a... Source: 5 months ago
  • Alternative with SMS forwarding?
This is usually very limited. For instance, I used voip.ms, and they limit it to 100 per day and costs me abotu a penny a message (separate charges for inbound and outbound, so 2 cents to receive a message and then forward it along) This is done because SMS forwarding looks spammy and the receiving carrier will block the sending carrier entirely (this is why Google had to end it). • Self-Hosted VOIP based around wifi calling
TLDR - I want to be able to take a bunch of sim cards, and use them to forward phones and SMS's to my actual phone. This would enable me to easily split my phone numbers up to multiple services without relying on third party hosts like jmp.chat or voip.ms. Another key tenant is that I want to avoid doing the calls and SMS's themselves over cellular - instead, wanting to rely on wifi-calling (VoWifi) - The point of... Source: 6 months ago
  • Reviving my BBS - can I use a modem & Verizon FiOS to accept calls?
Sure can. You mean using the FIOS Digital Voice? Yep. I call out on FIOS Digital Voice all the time and get pretty good results. For my situation, my FIOS line is my voice line, but I also have VOIP through voip.ms for my BBS using a Cisco ATA and two old USR Sportster modems. Source: 7 months ago
  • Porting Twilio to voip.ms
I bought an Australian number on Twilio, but it says this number has No Sms capability. So I want to port it to another VOIP. I don't know any that has quality like voip.ms. What's the fee per month for maintaining this number after porting out to voip.ms? Source: 8 months ago
  • Debtor calls for previous owner of my phone number. Suddenly getting many more.
Switch to voip.ms and set up a menu to ask callers to press 1 before letting the call go through. Source: 10 months ago
  • VOIP.MS down again????
I just cant log into voip.ms at all to change the server to a working one. So frustrating, as I cannot even send a chat alert given their website is down, nor are they responding to emails. Source: 10 months ago
  • VOIP.MS down again????
Some of their regional servers are down, and their website voip.ms is inaccessible. I can't divert incoming calls to another DID because I can't even log into their website! WTF!!! Source: 10 months ago
  • Can a magic jack ATA be used for voip.ms?
Thanks for explanation. They saw a new special, magicjack $35, so decided on that instead of trying old mj they couldn't activate on mj (so I thought of voip.ms, I use that.). Source: 10 months ago
  • Avaya IP office migrating to SIP guidance
Thanks for the detailed response, I am going to have to read through it a couple of times and make sure I understand everything you stated. Really appreciate you taking the time ti thoroughly write a detailed response. What they have now is 2 DID, 2 numbers external numbers for different groups in the same building, you call one number and it goes to extension x, you call the other number and it goes to y. I will... Source: 10 months ago
  • Avaya IP office migrating to SIP guidance
Like the title says I have a small business that I have upgraded to 11.0 version and purchased SIP trunk licenses and looking for best way to migrate the service from our existing analog lines. Currently we have about 4 analog circuits that act as trunks with 2 inbound DID's for different parts of the business. What I would like to do is add the SIP trunks while keeping the existing ones working so I can test and... Source: 10 months ago
  • Internet/phone/TV package cost cutting help needed.
I use Ooma for my parents, because it's just easier than voip.ms. Source: 10 months ago
  • If I port my cell number to Google, does it still count a a VOIP number for verification?
Yes, it will count as a VOIP number. Most services check the current provider when you register for them/set up 2FA, I used voip.ms for my main number for a couple years and ended up porting it out to a traditional carrier almost exclusively for this reason (which made my number no longer show up as a VOIP number as soon as I switched in case you were curious). • Have a friend who switched to the new $50 plan who is basically *never* in the Freedom zone. Now we wait.
If that happens, I'd suggest he might want to port his cdn telephone number to something like voip.ms just so he can keep it (if he wanted to). Source: 10 months ago
  • Obi200 Purchase
I've written a guide on how to use an ATA or IP phone with a SIP ITSP (e.g. Callcentric or voip.ms) and Google Voice. No, it isn't free, but DIY ITSP service providers offer very inexpensive service. See:. Source: 10 months ago
  • Can a magic jack ATA be used for voip.ms?
Visiting a friend who got a magic jack ata, it's hooked into his router and old landline, but mj won't port his old landline # (he never started mj) I see voip.ms will port his #. Can he just Sign Up for voip.ms (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjD81OkSOGU ) port his # (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnVXPP1S9l0 ) and be good to go with the magic jack ata? • Rogers Bank SMS authentication code with VOIP provder phone not working
I have my mobile number currently under voip.ms with dialing and text messages done through Acrobits groundwire softphone. The softphone can receive text messages in general but Rogers Bank messages seem not to get through. Source: 10 months ago
  • Can someone help me with a quick walkthrough for getting a US sim/esim and avoiding the Rogers roaming charge?
Here are the step by step instructions I gave to my parents to use after activating an Airalo SIM for the US. These steps keep the Canadian SIM active so that iMessage and Facetime keep working with the Canadian number, without incurring roaming charges. (Instructions are for Telus, but I assume it would be the same for Rogers). I renamed their Telus line from "Primary" to "Telus", and the Airalo eSIM line to... Source: 10 months ago
