  I would personally research which genres are most popular (like top 3) and make a game in that genre. You'll do way better by default because the steam audience actually wants to play it. There's a few good resources to do research (other than just browsing steam itself and seeing which games get high number of reviews), like Game Data Crunch and VG Insights.
