Same with Chromebooks: we're just another datapoint for Google, and much more data is collected. Why not hand out Thinkpads flashed with Trisquel Linux[0]? (A Libre Linux that respects privacy?). Not a 'service' but Trisquel OS is a fully freedom-respecting and privacy-aware distro, and has no telemetry or phoning home. Source: 11 months ago
I don't own a cell phone and my computer is entirely free, its BIOS replaced with libreboot running Trisquel, a 100% free-software operating system. Others can do this, too, if they really want the freedom. It is not hard, nor does it require expertise. It only requires the will to do it. Source: 11 months ago
There's Trisquel, which is a GNU approved distro based on Ubuntu with all the non-free stuff removed. Otherwise I'd suggest something Debian or Devuan based, like MX Linux or Refracta. Source: about 1 year ago

He really, truly believes in his ideas of software freedom in a way that I really do think very few people believe in anything these days The thing is, RMS is also a free software extremist in ways. Trisquel ships with /no/ proprietary software and is 'deblobbed' of any closed source software. You even have to buy special 'libre' wifi adapters for it if you want a wireless connection.
