  Instead of "long" branches, you could consider: elongated, stretching, gangling, lanky, towering, lofty, or far-reaching. All of these words I found on thesaurus.com by looking up "long." Now, consider how each of these offers a slightly different vision of this tree, some carrying emotional implications. "Towering branches" give a very different feeling than "lanky branches.".   When I write I close all tabs unrelated to my writing so I just usually have 4 tabs open (the doc I'm writing on, my planning doc, my music, and thesaurus.com) I feel like not having any temptations for distraction is the best way to do it, mind you I do find my self trying to open up new tabs with social media some times.   But, It's not all bad. If you're trying to write a story this impulse is a huge waste of time and energy, You can't edit a paragraph in your head, the brain won't hold that much information long enough for you to thesaurus.com 12 words for when you're writing a smarty pants guy.
