The other - perhaps more important - reason to provide a laptop is data risk management. If the laptop is yours, you can force encryption, backups, and install endpoint security tools, which allow you to remotely wipe it if lost/stolen/fired. Yeah, nah. Ever since Lowjack, the Prey Project, and Apple's Find My Whatever burglars don't tend to steal PCs any more. Also, UnRAID's drives are formatted in Unix formats, meaning it takes a certain sophistication to even mount the drive to read it. That's more effort than J. Jonah Junkie is willing to put in.
