I have seen a few on mas.to mstdn.social mastodon.social and kinky.business. - Source: Reddit / 1 day ago
If I create an account on fosstodon.org, and somebody follows me from mastodon.social then my account data and posts get copied to mastodon.social, right? There is no way for me to prevent this from happening and I can't even opt-out and keep my data only on fosstodon.org as far as I understand. - Source: Reddit / 1 day ago
Just saw that -- and yeah, I'd guess botsin.space is undercounting. It seems unlikely that mastodon.social is counting users who aren't there, and it probably just has a broader view than the other system. - Source: Reddit / 2 days ago
If you're interested in joining, then https://vt.social is a solid recommendation for active streamers. For viewers it really doesn't matter. You can pick and choose at https://joinmastodon.org/servers based on your interests, or just register at https://mastodon.social/. - Source: Reddit / 3 days ago
You're being a little disingenuous to support your point, that same search of mastodon.social, also shows 283 people using relevant hashtags. (trans, transgender, transrights). - Source: Reddit / 4 days ago
I don't understand your concern. How is this different than going to mastodon.social and using the search box? - Source: Reddit / 4 days ago
(Author here) This blog post is actually part of a series to write profilers from scratch (https://mostlynerdless.de/blog/tag/writing-a-profiler-from-scratch/) and I'm looking forward to writing the next installment, in the next few days. I write a blog post on this and related in-depth profiling topics every two weeks (you can follow me on social media https://twitter.com/parttimen3rd and... - Source: Hacker News / 6 days ago
I repurposed my original 11th gen board as a home server running a NAS and NVR, among other things. [1] These boards are going to kick ass for a long time because of the IO. USB 3.2 can handle 10Gbps, enough for a SATA drive array. Thunderbolt 4 goes up to 40Gbps. All current Intel Framework boards come with four TB4 ports. It is frankly a challenge to make use of all of the bandwidth on my mid-tier original... - Source: Hacker News / 4 days ago
Chris Espinosa just posted this example of GPT-4 attempting (and failing miserably) to explain how a square has the same area as a circle that circumscribes it: https://mastodon.social/@Cdespinosa/110092792044177610 Do you think GPT-4 knows what it’s own limits of understanding are? Most people have a sense of what they know and don’t know. I suspect GPT-4 has no concept of either. - Source: Hacker News / 6 days ago

If you know Casey Liss from ATP or his other podcasts, James Thompson made a deepfake if him with permission and it is extremely good. https://mastodon.social/@jamesthomson/110062947060928918 I had no idea things had gone this far. - Source: Hacker News / 11 days ago
I'm running into a really odd problem and can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I just set up my second Mastodon instance. Everything seemed fine at first, but I discovered that I'm unable to communicate with mastodon.social. Communication with all other instances seems fine. I've seen the problem manifest in two ways:. - Source: Reddit / 13 days ago
It's interesting that there are normally 10.000-40.000 [0] toots per hour and it skyrockets up to 8.000.000 toots per hour in this graph, how is this possible? I have been writing a blog since 2000 and have made many friends all around the world. I still get comments and emails about topics I post on nixCraft[0]. But, most important, I learned a lot from those comments and emails. It also helped me build social media following[1][2] just for lulz. I recommend writing a blog with your own domain and server that you control. [0] https://www.cyberciti.biz [1]... - Source: Hacker News / 18 days ago
Really appreciate all you've done. I just reconnected to your via a new account on mastodon.social. I guess it's a restart time. - Source: Reddit / 21 days ago
Problem solved. The issue was with mastodon.social. I don't think I was ever asked to authenticate the account. Since moving to a new instance - masto.nu - everything is good on iOS. I was asked to authenticate. - Source: Reddit / 16 days ago
Already moved to universodon.social, but may move [again] to mastodon.social just because (bigger = more likely stable? dunno). - Source: Reddit / 17 days ago
Strange. Unfortunately I don't know what to tell you. When I navigate to mastodon.social and make an image full-screen, I'm able to right-click on the image and copy the image address without issue. I'm using the Brave browser. Perhaps this is some kind of weird problem with Vivaldi? - Source: Reddit / 21 days ago
I don't know how seriously to take all of it, but I think I made a mistake setting up on masthead in the first place. I'll try to rebuild on mastodon.social and hope masthead comes back long enough for an orderly migration of follows. - Source: Reddit / 26 days ago
My bad. I misread as mastodon.social. I was looking to see if there were any existing posts and read too fast (mastodon.social was down at the same time). Sorry for the confusion!!!! - Source: Reddit / 26 days ago
