  • Researchers Showcase Decentralized AI-Powered Torrent Search Engine
If you just want the decentralized torrent search there's also Magnetico [1] and Bitmagnet [2]. Tribler tries to be a whole lot more, including its own tor-like network for anonymity and this latest AI powered search to make it easier to find content you might not know by name 1: https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico. - Source: Hacker News / about 14 hours ago
  • Bitmagnet: A self-hosted BitTorrent indexer, DHT crawler, and torrent search
This is really neat. I'll need to check it out. A couple years ago I ran my own instance of Magnetico (https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico), but this project looks a lot more polished. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Why isn't distributed/decentralized archiving currently used?
You can create decentralized bittorrent indexers though (see https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico as an example)! This means you can search for bittorrent files without having to rely on a centralized service (although building the index does require some time & storage space of course). Source: 11 months ago
  • Ask HN: I've Built a DHT Torrent Sniffer and Search Engine. Should I Release?
Https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico Someone else did this a while back, universe continues to exist. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Ask HN: I've Built a DHT Torrent Sniffer and Search Engine. Should I Release?
I had been working on this successfully for a couple years in the past before I got tired of it and moved on. I still think it's a magnificent idea, to be able to host your own torrent site and to decentralise the last centralised bit of BitTorrent. https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Popcorn Time Is Back
I just get a rickroll gif on your link. Did you mean this project? "Autonomous (self-hosted) BitTorrent DHT search engine suite." https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
  • Self Hosted Open Source Torrent Scraper!
Although I admit, that I would love to see a maintained DHT search solution (like magnetico or dhtcrawler2). Source: about 2 years ago
  • Magnetico / Docker question
Yeah, you probably found it. Abandoned, yes, but not necessarily unfinished. Source: about 2 years ago
  • I2P applications wish list?
A magnet search is easy enough to self-host, I can provide you with instructions to self-host a clearnet magnet search engine over I2P in the meantime, but you can probably figure it out from this: https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico which is an easy to self-host DHT search engine. • Privacy using our Tor-inspired onion routing
    > you can passively collect info from the DHT swarm and build up an index over time For anyone wanting to pursue this, I feel like I can share, I used this recently https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico, people share database dumps regular. I found ~4 dumps and merged them for ~1x,xxx,xxx entries. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Show HN: Torrentinim – low memory-footprint, API-only torrent search engine
Magnetico[1] is an easy-to-use, self-hosted DHT crawler. It has a web UI that shows statistics and gives you a search engine (it uses sqlite full-text search). It needs quite a bit of bandwidth and some storage space, but worked well so far, for me. I've been running it for a couple of years and it indexed around 12.5M torrents (36GB of uncompressed database). [1]: https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Hosting SQLite databases on GitHub Pages (or any static file hoster)
I'm running magnetico (https://github.com/boramalper/magnetico) on my VPS. I currently have an index of 1.6M magnet links stored in a 5GB database. SQLite is most interesting not when the database is small, but when there are very few writes and all you do is reading. You can also look at https://datasette.io/ and see how SQLite is perfect for representing a lot of datasets and querying them. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
