  • My "drum kit" for the past couple weeks
I haven't tried EZ Drummer yet, but I might. I'm a computer nerd, so I've put together a laptop with Ubuntu Studio, and I'm in the process of getting Jack configured to reduce the Midi latency. I want to have ultimate control over everything, and may eventually write some custom plug-ins once I have it all set up to work with something like Ardour or Hydrogen. Some trackers come with their own sample packs, like the open source Hydrogen drum machine, or commercial Renoise tracker, so you can play around with those. - Source: Reddit / 7 months ago

  • How to become a successful one man band?
For drums, I used a program called Hydrogen, but it was optimized for Linux and had a lot of frustrating freezing/crashing issues on Windows. That was 5-6 years ago though, so it might have improved since then. - Source: Reddit / over 1 year ago
  • Struggling to find a good DAW for USB MIDI
Hydrogen ( mapped correctly by default, but only lets you record one pattern at a time! If this worked I might have been able to export the MIDI to a more full-featured DAW for further production, but I didn't really want to live that life if I didn't have to. Next one. - Source: Reddit / almost 2 years ago
  • PipeWire: The Linux audio/video bus
Setups for professional music production. This usually requires JACK ( as audio server, which allows synchronizing and connecting multiple applications. For example, you can have Ardour ( as DAW, but use another application like Hydrogen ( for creating drum samples. JACK connects the two applications using a virtual patchbay that allows using... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
