  • I don’t think I could work from home without this…
That’s when I found Focusmate.com. It’s such a great resource, because it allows you to remotely work with others while providing a sense of accountability and routine. If you are feeling isolation from WFH, need help setting up a routine, have trouble focusing, or just want company while you do other tasks like cleaning/chores, Focusmate is great! - Source: Reddit / 7 days ago
  • Why can I only do normal life functions when other people are around me? Am I incredibly dependent?
If you want a virtual person to be there when nobody is physically home, try focusmate.com to arrange silent co-working sessions. - Source: Reddit / 19 days ago
  • What’s your best hack to defeat procrastination?
Focusmate, it's virtual body doubling. Basicall you meet with someone who also has a task to do and then you both do the task separately with cameras on/muted. Also the advice to "eat the frog" really helps. Do the hardest, most dreadful task first thing; that makes the rest of the tasks easy peasy to get through. - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
  • Body-Double Resource
Hi! My boss recommended this site - focusmate.com and I tried it out last week. I was super nervous because I have serious social anxiety but it actually worked really well. Obviously because I was nervous I talked too much, but the person I was paired with was kind and kept me to the point without being condescending. Anyone else tried it? How did you find it? And if you've used it for something that's not work... - Source: Reddit / about 1 month ago
  • How to apply to grad schools around the world with minimum possible steps?
I only applied to grad schools in the U.S., but my saving grace was using focusmate.com and making my goals about time spent, rather than things accomplished. Focus mate made it so that there was a body double that I didn't know so I wasn't tempted to talk with them but they held me accountable. Having the goal be "spend 40 minutes on an application" made it so that I knew that no matter what I accomplished, I was... - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • 24M (GMT+8) New to the concept of accountability partners
Just wanted to let you know there's a site called focusmate.com that might help you find what you're looking for. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • [Weekly] Ideal Writing Spots and Combating Distractions
I use a coworking website called FocusMate for basically anything productive (work, reading, writing, piano sometimes, even yoga). - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • Very unique question - adhd and poker.
They don't have an app it just runs in your browser on desktop or mobile. https://focusmate.com/. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • What new thing that you started in 2022 that improved your life the most?
Focusmate.com. Get paired with a partner for a 25- or 50-min video session. Each of you is working on your own thing, but you can see each other. Works wonders, my productivity skyrocketed, both at work and outside. It may be completely solving the whole "how to start doing something when you don't want to do it" issue. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • [Advice] IDK what to do but I have become the person I hate, currently in my 7th yr of engineering, potentially on the borderline of being kicked out. Super undisciplined, skinny fat, and broke. I am ultimately living with regret.
Give it your best.. If you have trouble focusing, consider focusmate.com. - Source: Reddit / 4 months ago
  • New York Bar - Third timer
I am 43. Finished law school in London, UK in 2005 when I was 24. Tried to take the NY Bar exam in July 2015 with one month's study - failed with a 121 on MBE. Took it again in Feb 2016, failed with 133 MBE. I took it again this July and I got 272 overall and 144.4 on the MBE. This time round it was a totally different experience. I reached out for support. Saved up so I could take time off work. I got a top-notch... - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
  • How to prevent WFH from ruining my career?
FocusMate has revolutionized my WFH workflow. It's basically a matching service for friendly internet strangers that want to stay focused by working "together." You can choose from either a 25-min or a 50-min session, and once you get matched and it's time to start, you spend a minute or two telling each other what you're going to be working on. Then you each go on mute, but - and this is key - stay on video. The... - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
  • Does anyone else find it extremely difficult to stay motivated while working from home?
Also for the accountability though, I find that doing it with someone, setting a routine in a public space like a library or coffee shop (or even a separate home office), or using something like Focusmate or Codecave is a game-changer. - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
  • Please, i beg of you
On focusmate.com you get 3 free sessions per week (or a subscription of 5$ per month) to get paired with a stranger, you tell each other your goals for 1 minute and then you keep working with your camera on. - Source: Reddit / 5 months ago
  • 24F ADHDer looking for a accountability buddy with a similar timeline for thesis/dissertation work! ⏰My MS thesis is due Nov 22 and I’m so unprepared but still unmotivated
This isn't quite what you're asking for, but a tool I've used (and found right here on this sub!) is Focusmate. It's just a web conferencing software that matches you with a random person to focus and study for a bit. Again, not quite what you're asking for, but it could be a tool in your toolbox. I do it 1-2 times/week and I do feel more productive when I use it. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • ADHD isn’t fun. It’s debilitating and I’m mentally exhausted.
Try focusmate.com worked wonders for me! Also, watch this video about halfway through, Dr. Barkley explains why we have the KNOWLEDGE about what to do, we have difficulty DOING it. Hang in there. And I agree ADHD can realllllly suck sometimes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUA6esXOZcs HANG IN THERE! - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • Is it possible to force yourself to like programming?
I find that doing it with someone, setting a routine in a public space like a library or coffee shop, or using something like Focusmate or Codecave is a game-changer for keeping at it. I use Codecave and would definitely say it's helped make the whole process easier and greatly reduced the friction overall. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • Accountability Group for The Odin Project
Have you tried Focusmate or Codecave? They're pretty neat resources for this same purpose. I've been using Codecave (just as it's more coding-focused) and it's been surprisingly decent. Found that it's helped a lot with the accountability - I’ve been better about sticking to a schedule and I'd say progress has been coming a bit easier as a result. - Source: Reddit / 6 months ago
  • My secret hack to get my day started
Sign up for Focusmate which is a free service where you can book sessions with other random people who need help focusing. It's free for 3 sessions a week and if you need more, it's just $5/month. - Source: Reddit / 8 months ago
  • How do people with ADHD survive college??? Tell me your secrets please.
For me, the way I got through college and got out with good grades was by finding what worked for me and by trying to make systems that worked for me rather than just "work harder". I did way better in college than in high school because the class sizes were smaller in college. Obviously, this depends on the school you're going to and your major, but I found that the class size helped me focus, especially when... - Source: Reddit / 8 months ago
  • HWPO App
If I could wave a wand, what I really want out of a program is a mechanism to do online workouts as a virtual class, similar to focusmate.com. "You do your thing, I'll do mine, or maybe we're doing the same workouts, but we agree to start here and push each other until we're done." Useful for those cold or hot days when doing one more round by yourself feels so painful. - Source: Reddit / 9 months ago
