I have been using yahoo mail for quite some time. However, I am not really impressed with their product or their improvements. Since 2013 I had issues regarding hacking, their advertisement placement is very frustrating, their platform is very slow and these factors are some to name a few. An alternative email platform that I would recommend and I am currently using is Milfence which offers an secure email service offering end to end encryption and a protected platform.

Vivaldi has both a Webmail (as in an Email service online like GMail) and Vivaldi Mail (AKA M3) that is an Email Client built into Vivaldi and you don't have to use Vivaldi Webmail to use it. Source: over 1 year ago

The problem is you want a free provider. The only one I know of which meets your requirements is Vivaldi mail. I don't know if it's good. The company is reputable and worthy of trust. It also offers an email client embedded in its browser. Source: almost 2 years ago
Then browse to https://webmail.vivaldi.net and be happy. Vivaldi Webmail is totally independent of the email client integrated in the web browser, everything else still works the same.
