Xpra VS UltraViewer

One of my favorite bits of software is Xpra [0], "screen for X". You'd run it and it would start another X server (start apps in it with `DISPLAY=:1 xterm` or whatever), and you would "attach" it to your running X server with `xpra attach`. You can attach to e.g. `ssh://hostname/:1`, so I ran a firefox instance on a homelab server and attached to it from my laptop and my desktop to not have to bother keeping... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago

I’ve used Xpra in the past to connect to a remote system for GUI stuff, but I almost exclusively use ssh because most of the time I don’t need to run a remote windowing system. Source: about 1 year ago

To add to this if you need to access graphical applications of an entire desktop environment you can use Xpra or MOONLIGHT (I suggest the second one if you want to game on the remote desktop or need very low latency in general), you can use both of these through a ssh tunnel (you need to enable this and X forwarding in the config) so if you setup and allow access to ssh correctly you can also use these without too... With the fallout from FUD with TeamViewer, Management at the company I'm at has blocked TeamViewer. However, we have vendors that need access, and as long as it's not TeamViewer we have the OK to proceed forward.Some of my workmates are going for UltraViewer, does have the same results? So (also we are a non-profit, though it seems like most of these companies don't really give discounts) what is the software that has the closest to the ease of use and functionality of TeamViewer? And somewhat affordable (affordable equals a max of $500 a year, preferably allows as much as the free TeamViewer version does. I have been told to use UltraViewer, would you guys recommend it? Not sure if I should post this here. I'm looking for an alternative to Teamviewer, I would prefer a free opensource alternative but doesn't have to be. I would like it to be just an executable that they click on and I'm connected. I have tried Anydesk, and Parsec but I have not been satisfied. I am yet to try UltraViewer, I have heard it’s good, and I am hoping it will work. Do you guys have any other suggestions? Source: about 2 years ago
