  • Where can I find cheap or free vintage computers/parts?
Ebay probably. Try https://winworldpc.com/home for old software. Source: about 1 year ago
  • add this link to the megathread please (has some old games, along with apporiate operlating systems to run them in the first place, e.g ISOs of Windows 95)
I found a good website, I recommeed it, because there's no viruses, and it's just games and old OSes, I found DOS, which is good for most retro games from the 80's to the 90's https://winworldpc.com, I have gotten working windows 95 floppies, but there's also ISOs as well, sorry for the miss-spellings, but google chrome is crap when it comes to spell-check, which freaking doesn't work. • I have got to get this computer running for a project, what do I do?
Https://winworldpc.com/home will have all of the os you need. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Was given this for free. So far I know it's an AMD k6-2. Boots and seems to detect an hdd but doesn't load an OS. Research is ongoing.
A good start would be if you have another computer with a CD writer to get yourself a Windows ISO of your choice from WinWorldPC, burn it and boot that on this awesome machine. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Where do I find Software for my new machine!
Go check out winworld. Successfully running the classic TurboPascal from there, haven’t done much else since. Source: over 3 years ago

  • Ask HN: Why are paywalled articles on HN mostly available on an archive link?
    (1) Technically, I think that site works by identifying itself as the Google webcrawler and seeing the full-text version that many sites would like to have indexed. (2) There's the question of why that site isn't taken down (or how it pays its bills) and my guess is this: In the 2000s it was an open secret that you could read the news on most sites like The New York Times with the username and password... - Source: Hacker News / 29 days ago

  • Christmas Day menu ideas
This pot roast with winter root vegetables (I use rutabaga instead of celery root, but any root veggies are perfect) No sides needed other than bread and/or maybe some noodles. If you want a green vegetable, track down a whole stalk of brussels sprouts and roast them. Recipe is paywalled on epicurious.com and you can no longer paste links from 12 ft ladder, but you can access yourself through it https://12ft.io/. Source: 6 months ago

Use 12ft Ladder. Breaks the formatting, but you can read all the text. Source: 6 months ago
  • Open Thread: Weekend Edition #50 (Dec 2023)
I've never had an issue with a paywall on their website so no idea but you can try opening it via 12ft or Archive. Source: 6 months ago
