I don't know if it's the way I had Bridge set up, but it was desperately slow showing catalogues of images - if it cached the db I didn't notice any speed boost in reading from it that's for sure. On my Mac I use NeoFinder and it's fantastic - fast, extensive and capable of handling a bucketload of file formats. They have a sister product AbeMedia for Windows. I've never used it, but if it's half as good NeoFinder it will be what you're looking for. - Source: Reddit / 2 months ago
For tagging / metadata / cataloging, you can consider NeoFinder. The interface might look a bit dated -- it's been out for 25 years and continuously updated (latest was July 21st) -- but it's one of the most reliable and fastest cataloging software out there.
