Weathersight enables content creators and journalists to create and share high quality weather analyses and reports.

We founded Weathersight to improve the utility of a large number of publicly available weather and climate datasets. As we discuss in our blog, government-produced climate reports based on these datasets fall short in effectively communicating regional shifts in weather patterns. We also found that both mainstream and social media often provide unreliable context when covering extreme weather events. Key local data is lacking, with an overreliance on global trends to frame the discussion. For instance, the frequency and severity of extreme events affecting specific areas are frequently underreported, leaving gaps in understanding their impact on things like local infrastructure reliability. We believe a consistent, data-driven approach to reporting extreme weather will help the public better grasp these connections. To support this goal, we've begun developing tools to generate publicly accessible, high-quality weather insights that serve as a shared record of the planet’s extreme weather events.

  • Humans can't endure temperatures and humidities as high as previously thought. The actual maximum wet-bulb temperature is lower — about 31°C wet-bulb or 87°F at 100% humidity — even for young, healthy subjects. The temperature for older populations, is likely even lower.
I live in South Florida. After reading this I was pretty sure we would've hit 31°C wet bulb, but after looking into it using the free data from https://ncdc.noaa.gov/cdo-web, over the last 2 years there were 0 hours in my locality that got that high—the max was a little over 28°C wet bulb! I checked PBI (West Palm Beach's airport) and MIA (Miami's airport) weather stations and they oddly had the same max wet bulb... Source: about 3 years ago
