Ah, yeah I forgot about that part! When you are creating the account, you can click on the flag icon next to the phone number and change it to a different country (including the US if you want to). I don't think there should be a problem with just using your personal cell phone number to verify, but if you want an extra layer of separation you can also try using a SMS verification service like sms-activate.org or... It depends. Suppose you need a one-time burner number to receive a one-time SMS (you can't re-verify yourself using that number again).
