Might be worth adding a paragraph about what VyOS is, maybe not for the target audience but certainly for HN. https://vyos.io/ The VyOS website says: > Democratizing how we access networks through a universal Router and Open source software. > Our vision at VyOS is to dramatically change how we access networks so that we can all build the solutions we always dreamed of, without restrictions, limitations, or... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
VyOS is the next-generation network operating system that’s revolutionizing the way businesses manage their networks. With its powerful tools and intuitive interface, VyOS makes it easy to manage and configure even the most complex networks. Plus, with its open-source architecture, you have access to a community of developers and users who are constantly improving and expanding the capabilities of the system. Source: about 1 year ago
VyOS https://vyos.io/ is my go-to for open source CLI focused router platform. Configuration syntax is similar to that of Juniper. I believe as an educational institution you would qualify for free LTS images from them. They’re super friendly to reach out to, and seems like they’re still actively developing some really cool features. They do support WiFi interfaces, among many others. Pretty decent online docs too! There's VyOS if that's what you're looking for? If you want to do everything from scratch, just use Debian/Ubuntu and configure all the components individually. Source: about 1 year ago
If you absolutely have to do your homelab experiments in production, at least do it properly. Get some decent hardware (I just got a pair of these, they are fun: https://www.pcengines.ch/apu2.htm) and install something like https://vyos.io/ or opnsense or ipfire or something. Then you might actually learn something, plus in my experience these much more stable than cheapass consumer crap. Source: over 1 year ago

I earned at 16-18, learn a skill and become fairly good at it. And make an account on Fiverr. upwork. freelancer.com, etc. Design, code, or anything which can be offered digitally. If you get an order on any of them double down on it. Cold reach-out works, but you've to show something to them as a portfolio. Instagram is a good place, as I did. Source: 11 months ago
If my subscribers and views were multiplied by 100, it would have become a part-time job. I would be declaring income on my tax form, and keeping track of expenses. I might be considering hiring part-time editors on freelancer.com, but since they'd be independent contractors, they'd be just an expense to me. They'd be responsible for their own taxes. I worked on freelancer.com for 3 months doing mostly side gigs. WIth the payment, it wasn't much of an issue for me. The first payment indeed, it was more "special", as in, it took 2 months until I got the money in my account. But any other payment after that, were processed within days (at worst). I had some other issues (due to the country I'm working from), like my VISA card not being accepted so I had to do... Source: 11 months ago
I once posted on reddit my thoughts on freelancer.com and I assume, that it does not have a high reputation among other redditors. Someone who hired freelancers on that very site said, that clearing a payment is very difficult on that site, which I could understand. So do you have also faced other problems on that side? I am also waiting for payment since two weeks. Other than that, I think that the layout looks... Source: 11 months ago
