There's a website (that I help run) where you can ask these types of questions to locals for free - viahero.com. You can pay for more in depth planning but the local planners on the site are happy to answer general questions like this and they can be really helpful for specific or niche stuff that only a local knows about. Apologies ahead of time if this is not allowed but I help run a website where you can ask Italian locals these exact questions for free - viahero.com. If you want to have them actually help plan out your trip in depth you can of course pay and they will put together a whole customized itinerary and map for you but you can message for free with no limits and many are happy to answer these sorts of general questions... Not sure if this is against the rules, but I help run a website where you can ask these types of questions to locals in Puerto Rico for free - viahero.com. You can of course, pay them to help you with more in depth planning, but there are no limits on the free messaging and they are usually glad to share general recommendations for where to go and what to do. You two have to figure out #1. For #2, is it really starting to earn or just keeping busy? For me, I am using my skillset to volunteer for nonprofits. I found catchafire.org, which matches volunteers to non-profits, projects they submit. They are happy to have someone to help, you get to work at a comparatively leisurely pace, win-win. It's what's worked for me. There are other platforms like catchafire. Source: 10 months ago
Catchafire.org is a website where non-profits post volunteer opportunities for people with specialized skills. You could get some real-world experience in a sector that may be relevant to your interests—education, the arts, etc.—and potentially a couple of good references for future employers. I recommend doing a volunteer gig at taprootplus.org or catchafire.org. Great learning experience, remote work, and they are very tolerant of mistakes and learning curves. If you do good, have them give you a recommendation on LinkedIn. Source: 12 months ago
Look for project coordinator or project officer role; nonprofits/ NGOs seem to be opening such roles quite often. Also, check out catchafire.org (volunteering for nonprofits/ NGOs), good luck. Source: about 1 year ago
I am still trying to break into the industry and I have some confidence issues regarding my ability to do the job. I have always been a more hands-on person so until I can get my hands wet it's hard for me to feel comfortable. I even saw someone recommend catchafire.org and I even feel incapable of doing these volunteer jobs. Source: about 1 year ago
