But, if your ultimate question is, "how can I concept-test the greatest number of ideas at one time?", I think you're going to have to choose between some kind of forced-order ranking or card-sorting exercise. If you are extremely worried about root kits you would need to start with a clean system and then whitelist any "positives". If your concerned you would have to use the tedious method of using dpkg to determine what package a file belongs to, one at a time, and then compare it's checksum to the back installed...
