Core coding and IT skills are a must though. Pick a language you followed and liked at Uni, check there is decent job demand for it, and do a udemy.com course on it (great value, great content, very cheap). Pair this with a major cloud (Azure or AWS) qualification which is pretty much a must these days, and you're much more attractive as an applicant. Source: 11 months ago

If you're prepared to do self-study, take a look at the udemy.com learning site. I paid somewhere in the region of £15 (they retail for around £60-70 in general but always come on sale at some point) for a number of courses (incl. languages). The courses are rated by students and I haven't yet been let down. Source: 12 months ago
And, for completion, with the same engine that beyond all reason is done, but with a different game play feeling: https://zero-k.info/ I personally prefer Zero-K (flatter tech tree, territory can be more important), but both are great games. - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago

Zero-k (https://zero-k.info/) on the same engine supports custom maps. How would you feel about uploading / other people uploading the map? Source: 11 months ago
My current favorite is Beyond All Reason. Before BAR, my favorite was Zero-K. Both BAR and zk use the same game engine, SpringRTS. BAR and zk are very similar to one another, and they're successors for Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander. Source: about 1 year ago
Zero-K and Beyond All Reason have some kind of tower defense mode. Both are FOSS and run on the same engine (Spring). Source: over 1 year ago
