They mention what type of blend style to use for shadows and etc and you generally need to make all that using simple shapes. As for how to make it look good, that is another question. For GitHub, I'll say just do basic things and most importantly learn about merging and creating branch checkout, etc. Try to work with a team where if you even push in main by mistake it won't be a blunder. Tutorials are good but I was at the same place once. Git was scary lol. There are some intermediate things like rebase etc. But you won't need most of it.
