  The main reason to use Dexed is it being DX7 compatible, and a DX7 librarian; overall I think there are far better options out there. No longer in active development, but I find OxeFM has a far more intuitive interface (taking a matrix approach to modulations vs algorithms). Source: almost 2 years ago

  It seems like what you want is to learn FM synthesis, rather than dexed. If you want to experiment with FM synthesis in general, I find Dexed's UI to be quite painful. Consider trying out OxeFM. It's fairly only now but so is FM synthesis. It has a matrix of knobs to route your modulations which (for me) is far easier to comprehend than a little diagram of an algorithm and an array of operator controls. Source: almost 2 years ago
