The reason which made me curious in the first place was that I could not compile a document successfully which, however, was possible on my Windows machine where I have installed texlive using the online installer of tug.org. After a painful and long and painful investigation I finally installed texlive using the installer from tug.org and et-voila: it worked. Source: about 2 years ago

For a conversion to an e-book, it is possible to take a trip through (La)TeX and TeX4ht, or use Pandoc, which is pretty good at converting from Markdown to HTML (better than between, say, HTML and LaTeX). If you want to quickly spin up a niche online community easily there isn't a way to do so currently. There are things like mightynetworks.com, circle.so but they charge huge amount and are audience based platforms and not where everybody contributes. Source: almost 2 years ago
