As for food, I am clueless, but maybe you can make a wonderful Steak Salad to go along with the bread rolls to have some balance between carbs, protein, and leafy greens? Food blogs that really helped me when I started cooking were Simply Recipes (especially the older recipes written by Elise), and Smitten Kitchen (the latter I still swear by today, though some of the recipes are a little more complicated than beginner level -- still really approachable though!)
