Also check out Occipital. They have a little device (Structure sensor pro) that is clipped on to an iPad and also uses structured light. The resolution is really good and they also have the software to scan for protheses. They claim to be able to 'achieve fast, accurate and reliable medical-grade human body measurements.' They could be run on the local client that is being used as well, which is what I believe you're asking for.
