I'd choose something that requires less explicit programming, like Construct. It's proprietary software (I'm not affiliated with it in any way), but they have reasonable prices for education, and I know a person who has had success teaching kids to make basic games with it (with Construct 2, I think, which don't people prefer to Construct 3). I have a client on Konica-Minolta Opal PACS that used to be Viztek. It actually runs fine on Edge, but it uses some weird trick to detect the plugin, so it pops up in your face every 20 seconds wanting to download the plugin that's already there.
