I've used Stasher before to store my bag at the Premier Inn on York Place. It's just a couple of minutes walk from the main bus station, and was really easy to do - you book through Stasher, then go to the reception desk and show them your e-mail receipt. I travel several times a month so I'm a master packer. For you, I would recommend packing enough clothes for a week. Then pay to have it laundered while at a hotel or a nearby public laundromat. It's a perfect compromise of having enough clothes that will easily take you through 1 or 7 weeks on the road. My wife and I shared an overstuff luggage and hated it.
