That would not be too hard and only requires a few lines of code to create a TLS proxy. An alternative would be a webmail system if you have a web browser on your old computer. Btw, the reason why I disagree is because the author seems to only see two possible models for social networks: centralised corporations vs all-powerful admins. But there is many more ways to go about this. Your company probably runs an email server for you, who is in charge of that? Some all-powerful admin? No drama there, right?
