Signal works the same but without the user tracking from Meta/Facebook. Many people use it as well but I'm surprised that a majority sticks to WhatsApp. Source: 5 months ago
A question I often get is "Well are my text messages safe" The short answer is... Maybe? Depends on what type of phone you use, your carrier, and a bunch of other factors. One way to avoid this is to use an end-to-end encrypted text service like Signal if that is a concern of yours. VERY IMPORTANT NOTES: Telegram and WhatsApp are not secure. The way to think of this security is that if is retained by a server... Source: 5 months ago
The linked page is on signalusers.org, but Signal's regular home site is https://signal.org/. I'm looking all over signal.org for some link from there to signalusers.org, as that would make me more relaxed about the authenticity of the latter -- i.e., that it really is run by the same people who run signal.org. Yes, maybe I'm being paranoid. But we're talking about an app whose whole purpose is secure... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
WhatsApp and Signal: Of course I’m going to conclude with the point to point encrypted communication apps Signal and WhatsApp. Most of our clients around the world communicate in these apps more than they make phone calls or send emails. Set up an account in each app and start leveraging the text, photo, phone and video features to have easy and fast conversations with your global contacts. See https://signal.org... Good news! Run0 will use polkit[1], which uses JavaScript for its rules[2], so there's no limit on how complex your rules can get! On the other hand, maybe adding a JavaScript interpreter to Linux's trusted computing base isn't such good news... Apparently there are some stations which still have ticket gates, but I haven't seen any in the rather short time I've been in the Netherlands - they seem to be concentrated in metropolitan areas[1], and I've only been in the somewhat more rural[2] province of Limburg. As it happens, though, I have never actually used the OV-chipcard myself, as I always use an Interrail pass when travelling any further than... - Source: Hacker News / 3 days ago
Uh, depending on exactly how it's implemented, it could break a lot of things. If all you are using sudo on is a personal (i.e. Single user) laptop/desktop to install packages, this (along with other things like pkexec or doas) would seem to present no issues (and personally, from what I can see, I'd be happy to run `run0` on my personal systems!), but sudo does significantly more than that,... - Source: Hacker News / about 23 hours ago
Oh, TIL about https://mastodon.social/ (https://joinmastodon.org/) Looks like what you describe, doesn't it? > Social networking that's not for sale. - Source: Hacker News / 4 days ago
Getting some Qs about Delta availability, hope this clarifies things! • Delta is exclusive to AltStore in EU • Because of Apple’s new dev terms, all downloads in EU cost us €0.50/yr in AltStore PAL and App Store…so couldn’t offer Delta in EU App Stores without making it paid • App Store only supports one-time paid-upfront apps, so we’d have to pick a price that could support ~years of CTFs • PAL’s €1.50... - Source: Hacker News / 10 days ago
