I have been a very happy Shush user for a long time. It's useful for muting myself on Zoom, Teams, WebEx, Meet etc. Without having to remember where the mute button is on each app. Source: over 2 years ago

There's a utility app on macOS that I've used for years called Shush < https://mizage.com/shush/ > that provides a global mic toggle (double tap to invert toggle to speak/mute).
