On macOS, I use SensibleSideButtons to map my Logitech mouse side buttons to Swipe Right and Swipe Left. This works as a generic Forwards/Back in lots of places: Safari, Firefox, Finder, iTerm2. Try running a software like DriveDx. Check the SSD writes in total (TBW). Older SSDs are still good for about 100-200 TBW, depending on their capacity. Source: 10 months ago
