  • Ask HN: Any Hardware Startups Here?
At Sense we make a home energy monitor that provides real-time appliance-level monitoring using machine learning. Hardware is indeed hard as everyone said it would be! https://sense.com. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • How many amps can I get?
If you want to know exactly how much you are using, when, and approximately how much each device is pulling there are sensors that can help. Eg Https://sense.com/ There are a few others. If you are interested I recommend some googling and read reviews. Source: 11 months ago
  • Ask HN: Home Energy Monitor Recommendations?
Hi all, Wondering if you have any other recommendations or thoughts on the below. Use case: I have a solar array and want to track in one spot all the energy produced, energy imported, energy exported, and where energy is being used. Both of the following seem to do what I want with some nuances. I am looking at: 1) Sense [0], which identifies energy use patterns of different devices to determine what devices are... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Any suggestions what is happening to my electric bill??
Https://sense.com/ try this guy out. I got one and it seems to work fairly well. I have a light fixture that’s wildly inefficient. Source: 12 months ago
  • my grandmother's power usage is excessive, (300/mo). she lives in a small house and does not have a hidden weed operation. help!??!
I don’t see it mentioned here, but if you really wanted to know what is using power in her whole house, you could get a “Sense” energy monitor. It gets installed by you inside the main breaker panel and lets you see/learns what uses power and allows you to pinpoint large wasters. A little pricey up front, but could easily pay for itself. • DuckDB – in-process SQL OLAP database management system
We use DuckDB extensively where I work (https://watershed.com), the primary way we're using it is to query Parquet formatted files stored in GCS, and we have some machinery to make that doable on demand for reporting and analysis "online" queries. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

  • Is climate tech the new fintech?
Here's why I'm asking — Watershed, a new carbon accounting tool that recently raised $60m, was spun out of Stripe. Patch.io, an API-first offsets marketplace, has strong ties to Plaid. And Bend, a CO2e emissions data API that I'm working on, grew out of Abacus, an expense management app. Source: about 2 years ago
  • What role can CS majors play in the fight against the climate crisis?
Your best bet with your current skillset (assuming you're more SWE-oriented) would be to join forward-looking startups and companies in the climate space. There's plenty of startups that are in need of engineers, and it would surprise you that a lot of them are relatively well-funded (e.g. https://watershedclimate.com/, funded by Stripe founders and Kleiner Perkins). Alternatively, you can probably join as a SWE... Source: over 2 years ago
