Never really messed with that, I use Screencloud for my needs. Custom hotkeys + the capability of uploading them automatically to an FTP server. The in-built Windows one might be pretty solid for most use-cases though. Source: almost 2 years ago
Check out Arreya. They charge per unique feed, not per player/sign. I've never used them, but I did a ton of research on Digital Signage companies a few years ago and remembered them as having a unique pricing model. Source: 11 months ago

I highly recommend checking out Elo touchscreens or displays or Sharp displays if you are not needing interactive content. In terms of hardware behind the scenes, we always recommend going the route of Chromebox devices. They have a spendier price tag, but are work the ease of use, easy updates, and just overall user interface they offer, I promise they would be worth it long term in terms of time saving and...
