Protect yourself by first pulling your FICO score (go to MyFico and pull your own score, and you can get a coupon from retailmenot.com) and shop around. You can shop around for rates without a hard pull so you know how much car you can afford for the interest rate you would qualify for with that FICO. Have you tried asktrim.com? You send them the bill, they negotiate a better rate, you pay them 15% of the annual savings. And they'll keep coming back for more cuz it helps them too. They've renegoticated my cell bill 4 times in 2 years and saved me over $1,400, and charged me about $450.
