  Protect yourself by first pulling your FICO score (go to MyFico and pull your own score, and you can get a coupon from retailmenot.com) and shop around. You can shop around for rates without a hard pull so you know how much car you can afford for the interest rate you would qualify for with that FICO.   The first time I do a recipe, I follow the recipe, but I make a small batch. If you find a recipe at food.com, you can scale it down to 1 or 2 servings. Then you can decide if it needs more or less of something. For me, I like more pepper and more garlic than some recipes call for. I know there's a specific subreddit too, and you can use those two search terms (intials and spelled out) on sites like Allrecipes and food.com.
