If you are trying to get photos off of the iPad, you're going to want to hook it up to a PC or Mac. You may be able to get at the photos directly via (at the least Photos on the Mac) a photo application. There may be an easier way to do it, but this works for me ... 1) using laptop, make an iTunes backup of iPhone, 2) download and install iPhone Backup Extractor and install on laptop, then 3) reference this section of the website, which discusses recovering text messages as a .PDF.
