  • Please don’t theme our apps
Sure, and if they just said "we'll close tickets for anything to do with theming" or similar, it'd be fine, but instead we get: > We understand the need for distributions to stand out. However, we urge you to find ways to do this without taking away our agency. We are tired of having to do extra work for setups we never intended to support, just to have that used against us when people tell us the breakage from... - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
  • Vanilla OS 2.0 Orchid base is changing from Ubuntu to Debian
Something like Regolith perhaps? https://regolith-linux.org/ Or did you mean just GNOME but with more keyboard driven window management? If so there is tiling assistant extension for GNOME that isn’t bad from what I’ve heard. - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago
  • What is a good alternative desktop environment to GNOME with these properties?
You may want to try out the regolith-linux DE, its gnome+i3 sort of mixed together. https://regolith-linux.org/ Its a bit unusual in some ways compared to 'normal' gnome and i3. But its usable, and has sane defaults normally, you can tweak it like crazy if you want to learn how it works. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Hardcore tiling WM and terminal users that switched to KDE or Gnome, how is it going?
Https://regolith-linux.org/ best implementation of i3 on Ubuntu out-the-box (and other distros) imo. Check it out. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • tiling/floating window manager hybrid?
Https://regolith-linux.org/ - regolith has its own .iso but you can also install the regolith packages on top of standard ubuntu as well. Source: about 2 years ago

  • A Modern Operating System in 1.44MBs
Here's the link to the OS the YouTube video is talking about... http://kolibrios.org/en/ It's been around for a very long time and is actually a fork of MenuetOS... http://menuetos.net Both are very impressive feats of assembly language engineering. - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago
  • MenuetOS: An entire operating system in x86_64 assembly
Mandatory mention to KolibriOS[0], an open-source fork of MenuetOS. 0. http://kolibrios.org/en/. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • MenuetOS
    > KolibriOS has forked off from MenuetOS in 2004, and is run under independent development since then. All our code is open-source, with the majority of the code released under GPLv2 license. https://kolibrios.org/en/. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
  • How can a browser (Firefox, Brave, Chrome, whatever) use 10+ gigabyte RAM???
Abundance of resources in average machine is making people quite lazy. Just to shock people I tell them to take a look at KolibriOS. Whole OS, with drivers, sound, graphics, software, compiler, debugger and games fits on CD image 39MB. Smallest bootable system is 1.3MB. My phone makes photos that are bigger than that. • TinyLLama – A Tiny x86 Retrocomputer
Again, >I'd like to have a grasp of what sort of compatibility this relatively unknown cpu has. I do not plan to run Linux on this. But I might want to run MenuetOS[0], KolibriOS[1], Aros[2], ZealOS[3], to give you some examples. 0. https://www.menuetos.net/ 1. https://kolibrios.org/en/ 2. https://aros.sourceforge.io/ 3. https://zealos.net/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
