  • Cortile – Linux auto tiling manager with hot corner support
Stick with i3! For anyone who wants i3 but doesn't want to configure it, the only other option I know of was regolith: https://regolith-desktop.com/ or https://regolith-linux.org/ This looks like a nice fit for my xfwm machine and I'm excited to try it. - Source: Hacker News / 30 days ago
  • Please don’t theme our apps
Sure, and if they just said "we'll close tickets for anything to do with theming" or similar, it'd be fine, but instead we get: > We understand the need for distributions to stand out. However, we urge you to find ways to do this without taking away our agency. We are tired of having to do extra work for setups we never intended to support, just to have that used against us when people tell us the breakage from... - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • Vanilla OS 2.0 Orchid base is changing from Ubuntu to Debian
Something like Regolith perhaps? https://regolith-linux.org/ Or did you mean just GNOME but with more keyboard driven window management? If so there is tiling assistant extension for GNOME that isn’t bad from what I’ve heard. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • What is a good alternative desktop environment to GNOME with these properties?
You may want to try out the regolith-linux DE, its gnome+i3 sort of mixed together. https://regolith-linux.org/ Its a bit unusual in some ways compared to 'normal' gnome and i3. But its usable, and has sane defaults normally, you can tweak it like crazy if you want to learn how it works. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Hardcore tiling WM and terminal users that switched to KDE or Gnome, how is it going?
Https://regolith-linux.org/ best implementation of i3 on Ubuntu out-the-box (and other distros) imo. Check it out. Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Ask HN: Custom domain for personal email – yay or nay?
Yay! I use the free version of iRedMail [0] under OpenBSD since 2017 and every email I send gets through with any issues (except the first days when I screwed up my SPF/DKIM configuration). [0] https://iredmail.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 24 days ago
  • Selfhosted backup solution for iCloud Backup
For photo I use Immich. For contact and calendar I use my own mail server (iRedMail). For Cloud I have my own nextcloud server. With nextcloud you can sync contact and calendar of uou don't have a mail server likes iRedMail. Source: 12 months ago
  • I am highly excited and overjoyed to share this post.
I used to spend all my time maintaining e-mail quirks for my server. Adjust this, updated that, fix this breakage, yada yada. But then I decided to setup iRedMail which uses postfix, dovecot, certbot, roundcube, spamassasin, mariadb, ldap and all the bells and whistles. All I have to do now is make sure I don’t break it doing any software upgrades on freebsd. 10/10 scores after configuring and blacklist free. Source: about 2 years ago
