Readwise Reviews

  1. Great help to review books

I imported my kindle highlights, as many others. Now I daily review some highlights (thanks to a dashboard, I am motivated). And where I didn't create highlights, as I only listened to the audiobooks, I get the highlights from others. It also allows to create beautiful quotes. It adds the book cover and matches quote and background with colours found on the book title! Really nice!

  • FEATURE REQUEST: Get notes without logging in
I'm between apps at the moment! I would have used Notion except it wasn't possible to use the app on an e-ink screen. I need an app I can compose a synopsis on at the same time as export Kindle highlights to using https://readwise.io/, which narrows the options. I'm looking at Logseq at the moment. • Pocket: It gets worse the more you use it
Very much agree that Pocket has gotten worse as I've used it over the years. It's so bad I've mostly moved to the much better Readwise (https://readwise.io/). I'd be fully over if they actually supported a decent export (see below). It's sad because I'm probably in the 99th percentile of Pocket users in terms of usage and am happily paying them for Premium. I can't remember a significant improvement to Pocket in 2... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • What’s the best way to take notes while reading?
I tend to read highlight and annotate using a Kindle, and subscribe to https://readwise.io/ to transfer my notes to the web. I would like to have the workflow to be able to write up summaries of books, if only for my own reference. At the moment reading my notes is like reading a book in itself. Source: 11 months ago
  • How to take notes on technical books?
Some of the things I am doing include highlighting using a Kindle, and with a subscription to https://readwise.io/ downloading those highlights to my laptop. It's possible to automatically orgnanise them into chapters and sections. Source: 11 months ago
  • Looking for an app that will help me see my notes again.
If it syncs with whatever notes app you're using Readwise might suit your needs. Source: 11 months ago

  • 10x performance improvement after transitioning to Next.js
I built a re-imagined version of Hacker News: https://hn.boxpiper.com/ on top of create react app and added some webpack configurations for performance boost. Because of SSR, app used to take a considerable amount of time for the processing and rendering. Used redis for caching but performance was still a question. The intent was to never wait for data. It should be readily available. So, I migrated the app to... - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago

  • Tesler’s Law
Tesler’s Law, also known as "The Law of Conservation of Complexity", states that for any system there is a certain amount of complexity which cannot be reduced. No matter which side you choose, complexity just doesn’t go away. All processes have a core of complexity that cannot be designed away. The only question is what handles it: "the system", or "the user". By creating a control, the designer is making a... - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago
